Dentists were the first from all the medical professions who started their private practice in Lithuania. They understood that the regulation of their activities, as well as other medical professions, was inappropriate. As they wanted to improve the quality of the dental service in the country, they analyzed the situation of foreign countries where dentist regulate their practice by self-governing institutions to come up with the idea of an effective organization. That is why an initial group of dentists strive to establish the first self-government institution of medical specialist in the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian Dental Chamber.

- October 1, 2001 – the Draft Law on Lithuanian Dental Chamber was registered in the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania.
- December 18, 2003 – the Law on Lithuania dental Chamber passed (No. IX-1929 (2004, No 4-35).
- June 9, 2004 – the first general meeting of the members of Lithuanian Dental Chamber took place. During the meeting the Council of the Chamber, the Court of Honor and the Revision Committee was elected. The main documents of the Chamber were endorsed – the Statute of the Chamber and the Code of the Professional Ethics.
- July 1, 2004 – Lithuanian Dental Chamber registered in the register of the Legal entities’ of the Republic of Lithuania.
As a result of this long process, today Lithuania Dental Chamber is an important institution in the Republic of Lithuania, overseeing dental practice and taking care of the health of its patients.
