To fight for the improvement of dental care services, the Chamber has built a strong international network from which it exchanges useful information. It is an active part of dental international scene as a member of World Dental Federation (FDI) which is formed by associations in 135 countries and about 1 million dentists. It is also a member of the Council of European Dentists (CDE) and the Council of European Chiefs Dental Officers (CECDO). Because of the importance of the communication with foreign, the Chamber has appointed a permanent representative for international relations.
FDI World Dental Federation was founded in 1990 in Paris, France, to come up with a strong institution which promotes oral health culture all over the world as a key part in an optimal general health and well being. It is the main representative body for more than 1 million dentists and it gathers around 200 national dental associations and specialists groups, speaking with one voice since more than 100 years. It main objectives are to bring together the world of dentistry, to represent the dental profession of the world and to stimulate the exchange of information
across all borders.
The Council of European Chief Dental Officers (CECDO) was inaugurated in July 1992 and its function is to provide a forum for the exchange of information on dental matters all around European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) member countries. It advices national governments, the European Commission and others institutions on matters affecting European dentistry, trying to improve the oral care service in all Europe. It also develops programs designed to promote a good oral public care by the coordination of pan-european activities or the publication of articles and reports.
The Council of European Dentists (CED) is a european not-for-profit association founded in 1961 which represents over 320,000 dentists across Europe. It is composed of national dental associations and chambers from 30 European countries fighting together for the promotion of high standars of oral healthcare and dental services. Among other objectives, they analyse and follow up on all the political and legal developments related to dentistry and actively lobby the European institutions in order to serve interests of dentists and their customers.
