The main objective of Lithuanian Dental Chamber is to supervise and lead the dental practice in the Republic of Lithuania to come up with a good dental system, promoting the oral health in the country. That is what the organization fights for trough four main ways:
- Implementing an effective self-government for dentists and coordinating its activities to keep improving the dental practices in the country. Any dental professional or dental association in Lithuania must be registered in the chamber in order to joint their efforts and supervising the profession.
- Pursuing the strategic aim of dental care in the Republic of Lithuania within the healthcare system. Despite the improvement through the years, the country has chronic health problems as the poor health education of the population. That is why the Chamber carries out specific programs working with the most vulnerable population: Lithuanian children.
- Taking concern in the development of dental activities in the Republic of Lithuania, as well as in the education of patients, professional training and medical culture.
- Promoting an accurate legislation for dental practice by preparing drafts of legal acts on the activities of dentists, dentist specialists and oral care specialists and presenting them to the Lithuanian Ministry of Health.
To achieve these objectives, Lithuanian Dental Chamber's functions include the following actions:
- To oversee the proper execution of professional duties, Code of the Professional Ethics and Statute of the Chamber by the members of Lithuanian Dental Chamber.
- To issue the dental practice licenses for dentists, oral care specialists and dental care institutions and to suspend or cancel its validity. To issue also a copy of these licenses and to correct the requisites of licensing following the order established by the legal acts.
- To register information on temporary provision of the dental practice services by the citizens of the European Union member-states in Lithuania following the order established by the legal acts.
- To manage a part of the database, established in the Registry of Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Specialists Practice Licenses, intended for registering dental and oral care practice licenses following the order established by the legal acts.
- To solve formal and informal educational issues of dentist together with universities and other institutions.
- To arrange improvement of professional skills, to establish the order of such improvement and to control its members’ compliance with it.
- To perform other functions provided by the legal acts of the Republic of Lithuania and the Chamber.
